about the website
The Tepper group originated in an e-mail that Jack Katz sent to a number of genealogists researching the name Tepper. As each individual accidently responded to the list as a whole, the idea developed for an ‘unofficial’ group in which those researching names classified as T-160 in the Soundex system (such as Tepper, Topper, Toepfer, and others) could exchange information and help each other. This website facilitates the distribution and sharing of our data and, if you are also researching a ‘Tepper name’, please contact us.
Indeed, the more T-160 searchers that contact us, the better the chances of finding connexions between our information and families. Genealogical work is difficult, especially given factors such as common names, missing records, and the eradication of ancestors in the Holocaust. However, by working together, we hope to make the work of finding our roots a little easier. In this way, the Tepper group is like a shovel, helping to replant our missing roots.
To join the group, simply visit our listserv (http://groups.google.com/group/tepper). Once you subscribe to the listserv, you will have access to the list archives (hosted at the Google Groups website). Additionally, our old archives (from the late-1990s) are available on this website to everyone.

The Tepper group website includes useful information about our members and their genealogical searches, as well as the Tepper surnames, in general. Below, find the:
Member information page, listing each Tepper group member’s summary of research interests and contact information.
Research maps, which plot the various locations in which we are searching Teppers on an interactive Google map. This is particularly useful if you are searching relatives in a specific region and demonstrates a clear trend in the concentration of Teppers in eastern Europe.
Old archives for the ‘Unofficial Tepper Group’ that was active in the late 1990s, before the creation of this page and the moving of the listserv to Google Groups.
The Tepper group listserv, which includes a recent message archive and enables new individuals to subscribe.
